Thanks for pointing this out. I thought we were using TCP/IP by default since we are connecting to the SQL server using IP address instead of hostname/FQDN. I had to confirm after reading your post.
I executed the SQL query that Jeremy posted and everything is listed as TCP under net_transport. I then followed your steps and waited a few hours to see how the change affects performance of the web console. It looks like it didn't make a difference in our case.
So, by simply using the IP address of the SQL server in Configuration wizard, the net_transport type would default to TCP/IP.
Changes were made at 7:30 AM
We have at any given time at least 20 users accessing the web console.
NB: Our "Demo" view has 60+ resources and more than half of them are based on complex custom SQL.
