You would use the IPAM v4.0 poller on an existing AP if you were running other modules on your poller than were not using the new Core version. Michal mentioned that currently only NPM 10.5 and IPAM 4.0 uses the new Core.

The only two scenarios I can think of that you would use the poller install is:

    1) If you didn't have NPM at all

    2) If you didn't want to upgrade NPM to 10.5 before upgrading or installing IPAM 4.0

    Hi Tom,

Here is a way you can copy an existing component monitor to another template/

    1) Go to your SAM Settings page and click "Manage Component Monitors within Templates".

    2) Group by Template and select your original template with the component monitor you want to copy. Check the box next to the PowerShell monitor and click the Copy to button - "Copy to Application Monitor Template".  (Not sure why the image below is distorted, it's clear if you click on it)

    3) Select the template(s) you want to copy the component monitor to and click Submit.

    Hope this helps.

    Steve

Couldn't agree more with the sentiments of the group.  And I also can't say we aren't guilty either.

While we back everything up, we aren't so good with testing the restores.  We have done restores, but never in a true DR test sense.  And those we've done have all been outside the Solarwinds realm.

As for restore from NCM, I truly think it would be faster to just use the backup config files on the NCM server and load them manually into the device.

Have you tried creating your own application template? You can start with the Component Monitor Wizard under [Settings - SAM Settings - Component Monitor Wizard] to monitor processes, services, performance counters, etc associated with the application. I also suggest adding a POP3, IMAP4. MAPI, or Exchange Web Services User Experience Monitor to ensure mail is going through the Voltage Email Security application and being delivered properly to your mail server (Exchange/Domino/etc).

  • This is not currently possible today in SAM. Your best bet is to monitor the Window Event Log for errors associated with failed tasks. This would however, be a great idea to post in the Server & Application Monitor Feature Requests forum.

Without trying it myself I can't say with any degree of certainty, but it sounds good in theory. In this case the component monitor would essentially only show as status of "down" where there was no response from the server. If that's the desired result then you should be good.

Several of these templates for Exchange 2010 have been updated recently to support cross domain/forest monitoring where no trusts exist. Perfect for MSP style monitoring where each customer is in their own unique domain.

Can I assume you created your own custom application template named "POA MySQL Server"? Is the alert showing up as triggered in the "Active Alerts" resource, or listed in the Triggered Alerts section of the Advanced Alert Manager? I'm trying to determine if this an issue with the alert condition not triggering or a problem with the Alert Action.

  • 06/09/13--16:55: Managing the Management Tools (chan 15222867)
  • Networks have certainly grown in complexity in the last few years, as have the tools that manage them. Between the explosive growth of wireless networking and the sophistication of topologies and applications associated with the the LAN, gone are the days of simple up/down monitoring and copying device configs off to a TFTP server.

Management tools themselves can become bottomless pits for wasting man-hours if poorly designed or not matched well to a given environment. Frequently, the same people using the tools are those responsible for their upkeep, and time spent debugging a glitchy, complicated management or monitoring framework can detract from the primary mission of running and evolving a good network.

Its important to choose your tools wisely. Make sure you query similar environments for what they use (and how) before you purchase, and don’t believe for a minute that you are stuck with only mbasswhatever a network vendor provides for system management. And by all means, recognize that the care and feeding of management tools needs reasonable time and talent allotted in your scheduling forecasts and contributes to the total TCO of the tools that you buy.

I need a scheduled report for Top 10 Netflow Conversations from each critical link. But I figured the way to do it would be to create a custom view and schedule a report to send the web page. Views can contain HTML code, but that doesn't allow me to include detatched resources from other pages (the page you arrive at, after clicking on the title of a section) such as this:

    http://Solarwinds/Orion/DetachResource.aspx?ResourceID=328&NetObject=NI:3064

Anybody got ideas how to do it? Iframes? I thought they were out of fashion long time ago.

The suggestion to disable the MLSD command is a good one, if only to see if it starts working as expected.  I had assumed that SyncBack was using the older LIST command, which apparently it's not.  After disabling MLSD, I don't recommend changing the list style to IIS or DOS.  By default, it'll use the UNIX style listings I mentioned before (be sure you've got that setting for "treat shortcut as target" set to "yes" ).  At that point, the directory listings you see in the client will look like the ones I posted and not the "Type=OS.unix" style you just posted about (that's the standardized response for MLSD).

The SFTP specification was better thought out in terms of how directory listings are handled and it even includes specific attributes and commands that make working with symbolic links (shortcuts to Serv-U) easier and more straight-forward.  Because of this, it doesn't surprise me that SyncBack and Serv-U agree on how to handle the symbolic link when using SFTP.

I cant open a ticket.  My serv-u support expired and cant seem to be able

    to get any assistance.

Ive tried on multiple computers, and those running old java seems to be ok,

though any computer runnong java 7 doesnt work and is broken.

Guessing by the lack of noise, nobody is aware.

Have logged support case to find out and are looking at the customer preview program post 3.11 as its touted as a potential product capability.

Extremely interested in getting added to this from a QoS reporting retention perspective.

We don't use the NetFlow side and only purchased NTA for QoS capacity reporting so improvements in retention would be fantastic!

I am trying to add Red Hat Linux Servers in Solarwinds. For SSH, we use different port other than the default. From where can I change the default port number in Solarwinds so that I can monitor Linux Servers.

  • Hello All

When I try to login to NCM, it gives me error message that the user account details are incorrect. May be I forgot the NCM password.

How can I reset the NCM password?
